Yunnan has the second highest number of ethnic groups among the provinces and regions in China, after Xinjiang, which has 47 ethnic groups. Among the country's 56 recognised ethnic groups, 25 are found in Yunnan. Some 38% of the province's population are members of minorities. Their crafts are of distinguished colors and patterns.
